A Lebanese-Dutch Couple's Colourful Garden Wedding at Domaine de Perrotin

A Lebanese-Dutch couple's colourful garden wedding at Domaine de Perrotin near Bordeaux: 50 guests, a raspberry-draped ceremony and a courtyard dinner.

Rooa and Mark met in the Netherlands and built their life around travel, drawn to countries with open landscapes and a deep sense of culture. Rooa is of Lebanese descent and Mark is Dutch. When they began planning their wedding, they looked for a place in France that could hold both a sense of journey and a sense of home.

They found it at Domaine de Perrotin, a wedding venue near Bordeaux with a pool and on-site accommodation that reminded them of Tuscany. The setting was quiet and unspoiled, with a chateau at its centre and gardens that ran to cypress-lined paths. They wanted an intimate celebration, so they kept the guest list to 50 and spread it across several days, giving everyone time together.

Their priority was a comfortable, festive weekend built around French food and the wines of the Bordeaux region. The decoration followed Rooa's love of colour, running through pale blue, fuchsia, raspberry and orange from the first welcome drinks to the last course. One detail tied the place straight back to her family: the grounds hold centuries-old Lebanese cedars, a living link to where her story began.

The ceremony mattered most to Rooa and Mark, so it carried the most considered decoration of the weekend. It was held in the heart of the garden, at the end of cypress-lined paths, with a statue closing the view across the park. Behind the couple hung a raspberry-coloured draped backdrop, deep against the green.

The flowers ran from blue through pink to orange, a full sweep that reflected Rooa's love of colour and the very French, postcard look of the garden. The decoration was striking without being heavy, and it let the exchange of vows lead. That exchange is the moment they return to, the part of the day that meant the most.

The celebration opened in the days before the wedding, with a welcome party beside the pool. A DJ played while guests drank French wines, an easy start to the weekend.

After the ceremony, the cocktail hour moved through the estate. Guests visited the chateau and its grounds, where the centuries-old cedars came back into the day. Sky-blue parasols shaded the gathering and carried the colour story outdoors before dinner.

Dinner was served in the patio courtyard, an enclosed space against the Tuscan-style main building. With 50 guests the meal stayed close, the courtyard holding everyone in one place.

Food carried the evening. The caterer built a modern fusion menu around French flavours and the wines of the region, the part of the weekend the couple had most wanted their guests to share. The tables held the day's full palette, set so the colour built energy across the courtyard.

The design held to one idea, colour, carried through every space in a deliberate run. The palette went from pale blue and fuchsia to raspberry, red, orange and pale pink, planned so each area flowed into the next. It began on the invitations, drawn with French gardens and summery motifs. The same colour then reached the sky-blue parasols over the cocktail area and the closely set tables in the patio.

The florals took a graphic direction, a deliberate move away from a rustic look. The florist built cascading arrangements for an organic, soft-focus effect, full of colour and still current. That graphic edge is the thread the couple chose for the decoration. It is a colour-led approach that suits chateau wedding venues near Bordeaux, where the gardens can take a confident scheme.

Domaine de Perrotin sits in the countryside near Bordeaux, an estate the couple chose for its unspoiled, private feel and its likeness to Tuscany. They planned the weekend around the different spaces it offers. Guests moved from the pool to the garden to the patio courtyard, so each part of the celebration had its own setting.

The chateau anchors the grounds, with cypress paths, a statue-closed view across the park and those old Lebanese cedars. A single property carried several days for 50 travelling guests, part of what draws couples to getting married in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Lagant Weddings photographed the day, keeping the real colours of the weekend true to life.
