About This Venue
Discover the Enchantment of Chateau Saint Martin de la Garrigue
Château Saint-Martin de la Garrigue is a Renaissance château built around 1557, set in a working wine estate of around 170 hectares between Béziers and Montpellier in the Hérault. Only a handful of weddings are held here each year, with exclusive use of the estate for up to 120 guests, a 9th-century chapel, a swimming pool and tennis court, and the château sleeping up to 16 on-site.
The Venue History
16th century · Renaissance château with successive period additions
The château at Saint-Martin de la Garrigue was built around 1557, an ensemble of Renaissance buildings, while its chapel is far older: the first record of a chapel on the site dates from the year 847, and by around the year 1000 it had taken on its Early Romanesque form, later decorated with Italianate frescoes in the 19th century. The estate passed through churchmen, soldiers and local dignitaries; Doctor Bergé restored it and installed the monumental staircase from the old Montagnac town hall. The Guida family owned it from 1992 to 2011, a contemporary stone-and-glass building was added in 2014, and in 2019 the estate was acquired by Norwegian investors. It remains a working wine estate producing AOC Coteaux du Languedoc.
